A Perfect Niche Market involves both identifying your Niche Product and Target Customer; but equally important, is understanding your Unique Selling Position in the Marketplace. Being the go-to authority for your Niche comes from having insight into the untapped market where you have interest or expertise.
A Unique Selling Position (USP) is defined as the distinctive selling proposition that identifies your product and sets it apart from your competition in the marketplace.
If you are struggling to identify a Niche Market that will work for you, it’s important to break down this process before you can identify your USP.First your need to find a Perfect Niche that identifies your passions and unique abilities. That usually comes from some intense brainstorming and narrowing down areas that your have experience in, or a natural talent for.
Once you have gone through the brainstorming sessions to identify your unique passions and interests, write down your ideas about who your ideal customer and target groups would be and remember to focus on areas that are currently not well serviced in the marketplace.
Next, you need to ‘think like a customer’, or more specifically your target customer that has unique needs or desires which line up with your area of expertise.
Who is that target consumer with specific passions and interest in the product or products that you plan to market?
After defining this information, then move on to identifying the Unique Selling Position USP for each potential product or service that you want to market. Consumers search the web for two main reasons: Information and a Specific Need. It is your job to meet “a specific need” in a unique way.
Your USP should take your Niche Product and identify what it does that addresses a need not filled by your competition.
To become the “go to authority” on a particular product or service, it is not enough to just identify something that you are passionate about. Just knowing about the type of customer who would have interest in your product will not sell the product. You must clearly identify that there is a need for this product and that you have a unique offering that is different or better than your competition.
